Book Review: Make Your Bed – William H McRaven

Admiral William H. McRaven served as a Navy SEAL for 37 years. As a Four-Star Admiral, his final assignment was as Commander of all U.S Special Operations Forces. Make Your Bed is Admiral William’s first book. This was actually a commencement speech he delivered in University of Texas. He elaborated it further into a book. The author mentions 10 things which if one does will significantly change one’s life. “Make Your Bed” is one of those 10 things and that’s how the book got its name.

Every chapter has an advice. The subtitle of the chapter and the quote on the next page are sufficient enough to give you an idea of what the chapter is going to be about. For each chapter Admiral William has 2 anecdotes- one from his Navy SEAL training days and another from his Navy SEAL missions. Each of these anecdotes are picked very aptly to match the advice. The author via these anecdotes conveys his advice to the reader.

The main attraction of the book are the anecdotes. Whoever enjoys reading about the missions of the special operation forces will really enjoy these anecdotes. These real life anecdotes will make your realize that life is not unfair with you and there are people out there who have gone through much difficult times in their life. I was really surprised by the Navy SEAL training anecdotes which really makes them so special.

This is a small less verbose book, with well spaced lines which makes it less stressful on the eyes to read.
