In the first part of the book Superlife the author Darin Olien explains the 5 life forces which are the driving factors to lead a healthy and fit life. The 5 life forces he talks about are:
- Nutrition – eat fresh, raw vegetables and fruits. Totally avoid packed and processed food. Animal products in moderation.
- Hydration – drink lots of water and importance of hydration to the body
- Oxygenation – learn the right way to breathe and importance of oxygenation to the body
- Alkalization – eat alkaline food as the body needs a slightly alkaline environment. In the other part of the book the author lists the alkaline foods and with their pH levels.
- Detoxification – importance of detoxification and its contribution in having alert immune system which actually does its job of fighting the bad guys.
The author explains how to improve each of the life forces and how these life forces are connected with each other, complement each other. There is a dedicated chapter about Kid’s nutrition where the author stresses the importance of inculcating healthy eating habits in kids. Between the chapters covering the life forces the author discusses some really useful topics busting some of the nutrition myths, describing some of the important things supporting the life forces.
The other part of the book Superlife is where the author talks about food and nutrition and lists out different useful foods and their nutrient contribution. This list is quite useful as you would know what to stock your kitchen with. The best way to inclulcate healthy eating is to stock your kitchen with healthy food. And this list is not specific to any country so you can find them in your local markets.
I got to know a lot of interesting facts especially around nutrition, breathing, hydration and detoxification which was really surprising. It was an easy read without lots of technical words. I would highly recommend this book. I feel this book can be a start for one’s journey towards leading a healthy life.
